  • Ethnic Dance

    ※Participants may wear appropriate dress and make-up during preliminaries, Semi-Finals, and Finals.

    ㆍ Classic dances should seek to ensure continued succession of their respective ethnic heritage across generations, and the new compositions must follow this principle, while at the same time, incorporate traditional values.

    1. Traditional Ethnic Dance
      • - Junior (Solo)ㆍSenior (Solo & Couple)
        • ㆍ One Performance (no more than 4 minutes)
          • ※ In case of Seungmu with drum, no more than 7 minutes
        • ㆍ Salpuri choom

        • ㆍ Ethnic dance of any other cultures around the globe
    2. Creative Ethnic Dance (Any theme of choice)

    ※ Creativity and Artistic Value will be primary areas of focus when evaluating Choreography pieces in the competition.

    ※ Both Award Types will have the First, Second and Third Prize awards. Both the choreographer and the performers will be recognized should they win an award.

    ※ Participants in Choreography category may perform in his/her own Choreography piece.

    ※ The First Prize winner will have the opportunity to showcase his/her piece during the Ethnic Dance/Ballet/Contemporary Festival at the end of the competition.

    1. Young Choreographer
      • Solo One Performance (no more than 5 minutes)
      • Group (two or more people) One Performance (no more than 8 minutes)
    2. Professional Choreographer
      • Solo One Performance (no more than 5 minutes)
      • Group (two or more people) One Performance (no more than 8 minutes)
    3. Rules of Engagement for Choreography Participants

      1. Participants must choose the appropriate category based on their age.
      2. Once the participant advances beyond the Preliminaries, he/she may not change the choreography piece. However, the participant can improve upon the original work and make necessary adjustments.
      3. Co-choreographed pieces may not be submitted (i.e. no more than 1 choreographer per each submitted choreography).
      4. One choreographer can submit only one choreography piece.
      5. If the participant performs in his/her own submitted choreography piece, he/she may not use the same performance to compete in different genres (i.e. Contemporary, Ethnic Dance, etc).

Important Notice to All Participants

  1. The members of the Jury panel reserve the right to not choose a winner in each genre.
  2. The members of the Jury panel reserve the right to present Special Awards to those who are merited.
  3. In the case that two winners are named for an award, the person with the lower numerical ranking will not receive the award. ex) If there are two 1st place winners, 2nd place prize will be omitted and one of the two will receive the 3rd place prize.
  4. Participants who advance to the Finals will receive a Finalist Certificate.
